The Naga Morich (The Serpent Chile)

Naga Morich (Serpent) chile
The Naga Morich also know as the serpent chile comes from the country of Bangladesh south of Notheast India. It is interesting to note that the provinces in Northeast India where the Bhut grows are the neighbor to Bangladesh. So climate and environment are the same.

It is also known as the sister chile of the Bhut Jolokia or Ghost chile. Pods have a pimply texture like a Bhut Jolokia but the Naga Morich is smaller with small ribbing in the skin. Flavor is less earthy than a Bhut Jolokia and heat is the same if not hotter.

The Bhut Jolokia tested at over 1,000,000 scoville units of heat. Guiness has it listed at the World's Hottest Chile Pepper on earth. However an unofficial test at Warwick University in England had a dried Naga Morich pepper pod come in at over 1,500,000 Scoville units!!! There is another variation of this chile called the Dorset Naga. Developed in England but as far as I can tell there is no difference in heat or flavor.

Until the official competition happens why not grow and taste both the Bhut Jolokia and the Naga Morich!. We are growing them now in 2009 and have seeds available all year round. Plants May through August and fresh chiles in October. If you are going to get bitten by a snake make it a Naga Morich.

Other superhot Chilli Peppers we are growing are Trinidad Scorpion, Trinidad 7 Pot, Bhut Jolokia and Trinidad Yellow 7 Pod. Also producing seed stock for Orange Bhut Jolokia and Chocolate Bhut Jolokia. We grow our Naga Morich plants Hydroponically.

Why I do what I do - Youth Venture

I was first drawn to chiles out of curiosity, not knowing that they would lead me to a greater purpose in life. Seeing the impact I had at the youth centers inspired me to do more for the kids, and the more I did, the more impact I had. God had introduced me to something as simple as a chile pepper. Where would it lead?

My inspiration came from God, the one who made chiles! I was bringing dinners weekly to two youth centers. The kids loved the food, and I began to love them. One day in 2006 I found myself with leftover food, so I went to a larger El Cajon center and offered it there. I remember a little boy asking me if I would be back. "Yes, I will," I replied.

Now I was at two centers on Wednesdays and one on Fridays.

My continued work with these youth is inextricably tied to, "Refining Fire." Though the business is not 100% non-profit, the expansion of salsa and chile sales enables me to increase my work with Youth Venture. The generation that succeeds us will inherit this earth. All of them were born with a purpose. We can contribute to their success by finding creative ways to love them.
